Gemma
Four months living on the street.
“I had never been to the street but the circumstances of life put me there. I considered it an adventure and had a great friend who accompanied me. I am disabled and this was evident form the crutch and the wheelchair that I kept next to me every evening.
There were some nice things: someone that gave you charity or a bar that at 1:00 in the morning brought you food. But there were two things that made me think about human selfishness. One morning I was sleeping with six or seven other people, they took the blanket that I slept with and I had to go the rest of the night with a piece of blanket from the person next to me. Another day I slept with my crutch under my head as pillow, they took it and, apart from medication and documentation, they left me without the crutch, without glasses and with nothing.
You think about how people are, who could steal from a poor person on the street. But this is happening every day. Think about it!“
