“Una història diferent” is a children’s story to bring the reality of homeless people closer to children and adults.
Why are there plants that are weak and can’t seem to stand on their own? Can the same thing happen to people? What are the hardships that a person living on the street has to face? How can we help? “Una història diferent”, a children’s book that caters to children, families and educational spaces and tries to end prejudices against homeless people, tries to answer all these questions.
“Dad, look at this guy! What is he doing?”
“I think he’s making his bed.”
“On the sidewalk? I’d be cold on the street. And also scared!”
“This man did not choose to sleep here. Maybe he has nowhere else to spend the night.”
This conversation between a father and a daughter is the starting point of “Una història diferent”, a children’s book that helps explain to children and adults that having to live on the street is not normal and highlights the importance of taking care of the people we love and live close to us.
The book was conceived from the idea of Santi Beascoa, editor in Lupita Books and volunteer in Arrels, and it shows the reality of homeless people through the illustrations of Sandra de la Prada. It aims to end myths and prejudices about homelessness from the experience and the point of view of Arrels.
The book is available in Catalan and Spanish.
